Ruby on Rails has become very popular among web site designers and web programmers because it is designed to increase the speed and ease with which database-driven web sites can be created. If you_re eager to start using Ruby on Rails, the first thing you_re going to have to do is install it. That_s the focus of this article, the first part in a series that will teach you the basics of programming with this versatile framework.

So you decided to try your hand at programming with Ruby on Rails. Diamond on Tracks didn_t work out so well for you? Well never fear; we_ll have you programming with Ruby in no time.

I have to admit the first time I tried to install Ruby was a nightmare. It took me two hours to figure it out, and to be honest, it wasn_t until hour three that I realized I had indeed installed the Ruby part properly. Fortunately I decided to try the whole process over and what I discovered was this: Ruby and Rails are probably the easiest software I have ever installed.

Judging by the websites out there, I_m not alone in this. Even Ruby_s own website doesn_t explain the process very well. But I have identified the problem: most tutorials try to tell you how to install both at the same time. We_re going to make it simple for our tiny brains. We_ll break it down into two parts, since, after all, they are two separate programs.

NSF and USC School of Cinematic Arts Announce Novel Partnership

A major government research agency and a renowned cinematic arts school announced on Feb. 19 that they will combine talents to forge collaborations between researchers and entertainment scholars to produce cutting-edge materials that inspire and inform mass-media audiences about science and engineering concepts.
